Eldercare has exciting opportunities for Dementia Support Assistants to join the team at the following sites:

  • Eldercare Seaford
  • Eldercare Goodwood

 

About the Role 

The Dementia Support Assistant provides individualized one-on-one support and engagement to residents living with dementia , mainly in Eldercare Memory Support Units. 

This role will work closely with the site based leadership team with best practice and professional support provided by Clinical Nurse Consultant – Dementia, to provide high-quality care and support to residents.

 Provide individualised care and support to residents living with dementia, including assistance with emotional support

  • Engage residents with meaningful activities that are aligned with their background and interests, and which generate comfort, familiarity and positive emotion.
  • Create a safe and supportive environment for residents, promoting independence, dignity and optimal wellbeing
  • Foster a calm and reassuring environment, responding empathetically to residents' emotional needs
  • Provide back up to care staff assisting residents with activities of daily living if called up to do so by site management

 

The following shifts are available on a permanent part time contract; 

Eldercare Seaford

Week 1 - Wednesday/Friday & Week 2 - Wednesday/Friday/Saturday/Monday 15:00 - 20:00 (30 hours per fortnight)

Eldercare Goodwood

Week 1 - Sunday 15:00 - 20:00, Monday & Tuesday 10:00 - 20:00 & Week 2 - Monday 10:00 - 20:00 & Tuesday 10:00 - 15:00

 

What You Will Bring

  • Be a vibrant and enthusiastic person to join our team
  • Possess a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or Aged Care – or equivalent
  • Have a 6 months experience in Aged Care 
  • Be experienced in participating and arranging recreational or leisure pursuits
  • Have specific experience in working with Older People (it would be an advantage if you have dementia specific experience)
  • Be passionate about enhancing the wellbeing of our residents
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be enthusiastic and motivated, showing a willingness to learn
  • Have great time management and organisational skills 
  • Have the ability to think autonomously and show initiative
  • Be able to interact positively with residents and their families
